Overview

About this course

Ageing is associated with a progressive weakening of the immune system that predisposes older adults to infectious diseases. But despite the proven benefits of childhood vaccines, the importance of adult immunisation is not well understood. This e-learning module by Prof. Dr. Raffaele Antonelli elaborates on key factors that impact immune system function, burden of infectious diseases among elderly, importance of adult immunisation in building immune resilience, and the need to promote life-course vaccination to mitigate burden on healthcare systems.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this module, you should be able to:

  • Understand the age-associated changes in immune system health
  • Understand the role of adult vaccination in the combat against infectious diseases in older population
  • Identify key approaches in the optimisation of immune resilience throughout life
