Overview

About this course

Healthcare providers encounter patients with diverse sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics (SOGIESC) every day. There is a need to understand LGBTQIA+ health because of the physical and mental health disparities that they may experience compared to the general population. Inclusivity in healthcare is essential in providing services and management options that are appropriate, individualized, and holistic. This also includes acquiring and using communication skills that build rapport and dissolve fears of discrimination and judgment.

This e-learning module highlights the barriers to accessing health services by the LGBTQIA+ community and how healthcare providers can provide better healthcare to this community through culturally sensitive communication skills that also resonate inclusivity.
