Migraine is a common disabling neurologic disorder. Helping patients understand what happens during migraine
attacks and its timeline for progression can help them anticipate and pro-actively manage their symptoms.
Discussion of medication options in migraine management is also vital.
The hallmark of migraine
management is the treatment of acute attacks and prevention of migraine episodes. Calcitonin gene-related
peptide (CGRP) has been discovered to be the most important component in the trigeminal pain transmission of
migraine headache and anti-CGRP monoclonal antibodies have been approved as efficacious migraine prevention
options.
This e-learning module discusses the pathophysiology and clinical presentation of migraine
and gives special focus on migraine headache prevention and management including updates on pharmacologic
treatment options.
