About this course

Allergic rhinitis is a chronic, atopic disorder caused by exposure to allergens. This medical condition is globally prevalent and associated with sleep disturbances, neuropsychological problems, and socioeconomic burden. Hence, it is imperative for primary care physicians to properly address this health issue to improve patients’ quality of life. This e-learning module discusses the pathophysiology and general approach to assessing and treating allergic rhinitis, encompassing patient education, allergy testing for allergen avoidance, pharmacotherapy, and immunotherapy.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning module, learners should be able to:

  • Understand the epidemiology of allergic rhinitis (AR) and its impact on public health.
  • Explore the pathophysiology of AR.
  • Review the diagnostic approach and assessment tools used in the evaluation of AR.
  • Review the principles of allergen avoidance and environmental control measures for managing AR symptoms.
  • Discuss the pharmacological treatment options for AR and explore the role of immunotherapy in the treatment of AR.
