Overview
Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), such as urgency, frequency, nocturia, incomplete urination, and weak urinary stream, are common manifestations of benign prostatic enlargement (BPE) in men. Identification of BPE with concomitant symptoms of LUTS classifies the patient as having benign prostatic obstruction (BPO). If left untreated, such symptoms can have a negative impact on quality of life and may lead to complications such as urinary retention, renal insufficiency, and cystolithiasis. This e-learning module summarizes the symptoms of benign prostatic obstruction (BPO) and the management approach to this condition.
