Overview
Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), also known as a concussion, is the most common form of head injury
presenting at the ER. Currently, the established diagnostic approach to this condition entails a plain
cranial CT scan. Unfortunately, it has its own limitations and is often used unnecessarily in the diagnosis
of mTBI. Thus, the use of serum biomarkers could help to accurately determine the presence or absence of
brain injury without the need for unnecessary brain imaging.
This e-learning module aims to review
the current standard of care for mild traumatic brain injury and understand the role of biomarkers in its
diagnosis.
