Overview

About this course

Dyslipidemia management is vital for cardiovascular risk reduction as elevated lipid levels have been attributed as a major risk factor for ischemic heart disease deaths. Dyslipidemia management highlights the causal link between circulating low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL C) levels, the duration of lipoprotein exposure, and the total atherosclerotic plaque burden in a patient. Consequently, it is essential for patients at very high cardiovascular risk to lower their cholesterol levels as early and as much as possible.

To meet the stringent lipid targets, guidelines recommend initiating combination therapy for very high-risk patients with elevated LDL-C levels who are unlikely to achieve these goals with statins alone. However, despite LDL-C level lowered to target, residual cardiovascular risk persists due to the presence of other lipoproteins and triglycerides, thus, must also be managed.

This module will cover the latest guidelines on lipid-lowering therapies aimed at reducing cardiovascular morbidity. It will specifically focus on the comprehensive use of combination therapy for dyslipidemia and strategies for clinicians to optimize these treatments to achieve therapeutic goals.
