Overview
The health of people and the health of the planet are deeply interconnected. Environmental changes such as climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss directly impact human health, influencing the burden of disease, access to resources, and overall well-being. For healthcare professionals, especially in family and community medicine, understanding these ecological determinants of health is becoming an essential part of providing effective, holistic, and sustainable care.
This module introduces the concept of planetary health through the lens of everyday clinical practice. It emphasizes how clinicians can integrate the principles of sustainability and ecological awareness into patient-centred, family-focused, and community-oriented (PFC) care.
We hope to equip healthcare professionals to lead by example, applying their expertise to build resilient health systems that support both people and the planet—ensuring a healthier, more sustainable future for generations to come.
