Overview
This lecture enhances pharmacists’ knowledge of evidence-based smoking and vaping cessation strategies, while translating theory into practical approaches that can be applied confidently in daily practice. Participants will learn how to identify varying levels of nicotine dependence using structured assessment methods and tailor counselling techniques to suit individual patient needs.
It also provides clear, practical guidance on pharmacotherapy options, including appropriate selection and use of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT). Pharmacists will gain deeper insight into matching therapy choices with patient profiles, managing expectations, addressing common concerns, and improving adherence to treatment plans.
With the rapid rise of vaping, this course further explores current evidence and practice insights related to vaping cessation. It discusses emerging trends, patient misconceptions, and effective communication strategies to support individuals who use e-cigarettes or dual-use products.
By the end of this session, pharmacists will be better equipped to deliver structured, patient-centred cessation services that go beyond product supply, positioning themselves as proactive partners in preventive healthcare and long-term behaviour change support.
