Overview
Diabetic kidney disease (DKD), previously known as diabetic nephropathy, is the leading cause of end-stage
renal disease (ESRD) worldwide. Thorough clinical history, physical examination, and pertinent diagnostic
procedures play a key role in the diagnosis of DKD and in the prevention of disease progression. A
comprehensive management approach to DKD includes both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions and
a collaborative effort with a specialist and other healthcare providers.
This e-learning module will
discuss the pathophysiology and clinical manifestations of diabetic kidney disease, along with its
recommended management approach in the primary care setting.
