Overview

About this course

Type 2 diabetes is now recognized as a complex disease with far-reaching implications for cardiovascular and renal health. Patients with type 2 diabetes face significantly higher risks of developing heart disease and chronic kidney disease (CKD), both of which contribute to increased morbidity and mortality. For doctors in primary care settings, addressing these risks early and comprehensively is vital.

This module highlights the critical need to move past glucose control as the sole marker of success. It equips healthcare professionals with knowledge and tools to identify, prevent, and manage cardiorenal complications effectively. Participants will learn to apply cardiovascular risk stratification approaches, enabling early identification of high-risk patients, and to implement strategies for the prevention and early detection of CKD in those newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

By the end of the module, participants will be better prepared to protect their patients from the silent but serious complications that accompany type 2 diabetes.

Learning outcomes:

To empower healthcare professionals with the knowledge and practical tools needed to:
  • Recognize the importance of going beyond glucose control in type 2 diabetes management.
  • Apply cardiovascular risk stratification approaches to identify high-risk patients early.
  • Implement strategies for prevention and early detection of chronic kidney disease in primary care settings.
  • Incorporate regional best practices and guideline-based interventions into daily clinical practice.
