Overview
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common medical condition affecting millions of pregnancies
worldwide. Early detection and intervention is warranted for optimal maternal and fetal outcomes as both
short and long-term complications in the mother and baby can arise during and after pregnancy in women with
gestational diabetes. Perinatal complications and the risk of stillbirth are greatly reduced by
treatment.
This e-learning module discusses the diagnostic approach for gestational diabetes mellitus
and highlights the management of the condition antepartum and postpartum, including lifestyle modification
recommendations, pharmacologic treatment, and fetal surveillance.
